Ed Smith (Edward N. Smith, III) first served on the Marshall City Commission from May 2000 – May 2008, as both a Commissioner and Mayor, choosing not to seek re-election in 2008. In May 2012, Ed was re-elected to the City Commission and currently serves as Mayor.
Ed is a native of Marshall and is married to Amanda Smith. He is a graduate of Marshall High School. Upon graduation, he attended Baylor University receiving a BBA degree, with major in Accounting, and a second major in Marketing. He also has a concentration in real estate. He began studying Geology while at Baylor, and later, after moving back to Marshall, received Bachelor, and Master of Science degrees in Geology from Centenary College, of Louisiana.
Ed is president and owner of Smith Resources, Inc., an oil and gas exploration and production company, with operations in the Gulf Coast and Mid-Continent regions. Other business ventures during his career, including interests in restaurants, mining properties, real estate, timber, horse ranching, and aircraft charter operations.
Other organizations that Ed has served as an officer and/or board member include: Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority, Future Gen State Advisory Board, Northeast Texas Air Care Policy Committee, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine Legislative Fund, Marshall Firefighters Retirement and Relief Fund, Paso Fino Horse Association, Get Healthy Marshall, Trinity Episcopal School, and the Alliance for I-69 Board.
