Bus Service

Residents of Marshall can benefit from the flex bus route transit system. Three buses travel a three route system from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on regular intervals five days a week, Monday through Friday.  To view the GoBus route map, click on the "download" button below.

Each bus takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes to travel their given bus route. Fares to ride the Marshall Bus System are 50 cents per trip, and if you are elderly, a student or have a disability the cost is 25 cents.You can also purchase a one month bus pass for a total cost of 20 dollars.

 

Riders may catch a bus anywhere on the designated bus routes by following these instructions

1. Find a place along the bus route that is convenient for you.
2. Make sure you are on the correct side of the street.
3. * Drivers are instructed NOT to stop for individuals on the wrong side.
4. Try to avoid busy traffic intersections.
5. When you see the bus, wave to the driver so they know you want to board.
6. Please, allow Passengers to exit first.

Through a cooperative effort with the East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) and the City of Marshall, installation of the first four (4), of an eventual ten (10), covered bus shelters began in late December 2012 and early January 2013. In addition to placement of covered bus shelters throughout Marshall, additional route signage will be added in the next few months to aid in identification of the GoBus mass transit system. At the same time the covered bus shelters are installed. The currently installed four (4) GoBus covered shelter locations are:


·        City Park (Pope Street)
·        ETBU (East Avenue, east of North Grove)
·        TSTC (Main Campus)
·        Wiley College (University Ave., east of Wiley Ave.)

Proposed future GoBus installations (on or near):

·        Good Shepherd Medical Center – parking lot
·        Kroger’s – parking lot
·        Marshall Mall – parking lot
·        Wal-Mart – parking lot
·        Brookshire’s – parking lot
·        North Grove at Highway 80 – north of intersection

All GoBus routes start and end at the City Park on Pope Street, and buses also stop at designated sites along routes to pick up passengers. Individuals waiting at any accessible place along any route can also be picked up by getting the bus operator’s attention.

FLEX ROUTE – Riders may also benefit from our local “flex route” type transit system. The “flex route” system allows a bus to modify its route, within 3/4 of a mile from its scheduled route, for a special pick-up or delivery – when a person has made a prior pickup reservation with GoBus or the rider notifies the bus driver upon boarding of their need for a modified drop-off location; call 800-590-3371 to schedule a special pick-up.

About the Rural Transit District

The Marshall Bus System has been made possible through a collaborative effort and partnership between the East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) Rural Transit District and the City of Marshall. ETCOG's Rural Transit District (RTD) that serves the fourteen-county area of East Texas providing demand-response rural transit. The Marshall Bus System was the first rural fixed bus system for the RTD.

ETCOG provides demand-response rural transportation in its fourteen county region through the Rural Transit
District. As long as a trip originates or ends in a rural area, the RTD can provide the transportation. Call the
dispatch office at 1.800.590.3371 to schedule a trip. Trips must be scheduled 24 hours in advance.

About ETOCG

The East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) is a voluntary association of counties, cities, school districts and
special districts within the fourteen-county East Texas region. ETCOG assists local governments in planning for
common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit and coordinating for sound regional development. Established in
1970, ETCOG, either directly, or through its contractors, provides programs and services for East Texas seniors,
employers, and job seekers.

ETCOG and its contractors also build the 9-1-1 emergency call delivery system,
provide peace officer training and homeland security planning services; and deliver rural transportation services,
business finance programs, and environmental grant funding for the region. 

ETCOG's rural transportation system makes 800+ trips a day, 5 days a week, throughout the 14 counties of East Texas.

ETCOG introduced the new brand for its transportation system formerly known as the Rural Transit District at the 2011 National Train Day celebration in Longview. The new name GOBUS encourages East Texans to "Get on the Go" in the eye catching purple and green buses.
 
There are approximately 40 vehicles in the GoBus fleet. You can GoBus! Just call 1.800.590.3371 to schedule your trip.

Please call before 2:00 pm, the day prior to the requested service. You may call up to one week in advance to schedule a ride.

Vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts.
