2014 MARSHALL LIONS WONDERLAND OF LIGHTS – ANNOUNCEMENT OF ANNUAL PARADE AWARDS

Re:   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – RECOGNITION OF PARADE AWARDS FOR THE 2014 ANNUAL MARSHALL LIONS WONDERLAND OF LIGHTS PARADE - SPONSORED BY EAST TEXAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY

The weather was perfect for the 2014 Annual Marshall Lions Wonderland of Lights Parade, sponsored by East Texas Baptist University, and it helped create an overflow crowd downtown which viewed the some 90 plus entries and approximately 115 different lighted cars, trucks, floats, trailers, bands, and dance and marching teams – capped off by the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The Grand Marshall this year is George Smith – founder of the Marshall Wonderland of Lights Festival 28 years ago. His editorial sparked the birth of an event that has put Marshall on the map worldwide, and sparked the spirit of a small East Texas Town.

As part of the Annual Lighted Wonderland Parade, awards are presented in ten (10) categories, which were judged by our panel of celebrity judges:

          James Kinnard, Keep Marshall Beautiful

Jerry Pye, Marshall News Messenger’s Regional Publisher

          Charles Olivar, Past City Commissioner

Frank Lower, with KMHT Radio, transmitted a live description of the parade and entries.

The City of Marshall wants to express our sincere thanks to all of the 2014 parade participants and for all of the volunteers and city staff that assisted in the parade! Special thanks are also extended to the Marshall Police Department for crowd and traffic control, Marshall Fire Department for our emergency action plan and to the City of Marshall Public Works and Water Utility Departments for the excellent assistance in lining up the numerous parade entries. We also need to recognize Harold Raines and the Marshall Lions Club for his/their support and hard work in arranging the over 115 items in the parade; a “Well Done” goes out to all!

We also need to express a special thanks to East Texas Baptist University for their generous sponsorship, which helps make the annual parade possible!
