PRESS RELEASE - Director of Tourism and Promotions Hired
April 16, 2015 – The City of Marshall is proud to announce and welcome Sarah O’Brien as the new Director of Tourism and Promotions.
In addition to being responsible for the City’s Main Street Program and Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, Ms. O’Brien will oversee the operations and marketing of the Marshall Convention Center, City Arena, Visual Art Center, and Community Centers. She will also coordinate various festivals and special programs such as Fall Festival, Wonderland of Lights/Santa’s Workshop, Boogie Woogie, and Second Saturday.
She joins the City of Marshall management team from the City of Nacogdoches, where she has served as the Communications and Main Street Director, focusing on downtown revitalization and business development. During her successful 7-year tenure with the City of Nacogdoches, she has developed various public relations and media campaigns designed to improve local communications and community relationships with the City, created the annual “Wine Swirl”, which raises funds for downtown beautification efforts, and worked with local partners to fundraise and open “Dog Park Nacogdoches”.
“The City is very fortunate to have the opportunity to hire a person with the background and experience that Ms. O’Brien brings. She has led a very successful program with the City of Nacogdoches and we look forward to what she will bring to Marshall, said Acting City Manager Buzz Snyder.
Ms. O’Brien graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Administration and a Minor in General Business from Stephen F. Austin State University. She is a ‘Texas Friendly Certified Instructor’, a recurrent speaker at the National Main Street Conference and actively participates in the Texas Historical Commission’s Texas Main Street Program in various roles. She currently serves as Past President of the Texas Downtown Association and is a member of a number of professional associations related to tourism development.
Ms. O’Brien will begin her new role with the City of Marshall on May 18, 2015 and will office downtown at 301 N. Washington Avenue.
