PRESS RELEASE - Cruelty To Animal Arrest
Marshall Police Arrest Suspect in Animal Abuse Case
On April 20, 2015, at 8:51 AM, the Marshall Police Department received a complaint about Animal Cruelty in the 1900 Block of Jefferson Avenue. Upon arrival at the Pet Place, 1901 Jefferson Avenue, members of the Marshall Police Department Patrol Bureau began taking a report in reference to a man throwing small puppies over a fence, onto a concrete pad. Officers were able to watch a video of this incident.
While Officers were taking the report, a copy of the video was placed on social media by the Pet Place. This video led to a member of the community notifying the Marshall Police Department with a name of the subject in the video. While members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau were investigating the case, Paul Smith walked into the lobby of the Police Department to speak to investigators.
Paul Warren Smith, 61, of Marshall Texas, was arrested on a charge of Cruelty to Animals after being interviewed by Detectives. Smith was transferred to the Harrison County Jail and released into their custody.
Marshall Police Chief Jesus “Eddie” Campa stated, “This is another example of how citizen’s and police can work together to make Marshall a better place to live. The Marshall Police Department, along with the Marshall Animal Shelter, feels strongly that any animal should be treated humanely. I would like to thank the citizen’s who contacted the Police Department with this information, helping to close this case quickly.”
At this time, we do not have a booking photo.
