Press Release—Continued Street Closures Downtown
NEWS RELEASE – CITY OF MARSHALL, TEXAS
MARSHALL PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT - STREET DIVISION
OCTOBER 28, 2014
Re: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE CITY OF MARSHALL IS HEREBY NOTIFYING AFFECTED BUSINESSES AND RESIDENTS ON NORTH WASHINGTON OF THE SECOND DAY OF THE ASPHALT OVERLAY PROJECT ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2014 – THE STREET WILL BE BLOCKED OFF ALL DAY.
Businesses and residents located on North Washington, from the Square, northward to Grand Ave. (Hwy. 80) will be adversely affected due to this section being closed “again” on Wednesday the 29th. As we stated in a News Release on Tuesday, the extra detail work is taking much longer than they expected and much, much longer than they informed the City.
The western half of North Washington should be completed by the end of the day Wednesday (weather permitting and with no equipment breakdowns as the contractor had yesterday morning – at this time the weather forecast looks good for Wednesday). Some cleanup will follow, as well as some spot asphalt repairs, but should not require any additional closings of North Washington.
The contractor is going to try and make every effort possible to accommodate access needs and we plan to leave North Wellington Street open to allow access to the rear of stores on the west side of North Washington, and leaving the side streets open, right up to North Washington.
We offer a sincere apology for this work having to stretch into two days, instead of one. Your time closed or with limited access is a huge loss to your business which we fully understand and we are trying to do everything possible with the contractor to limit the impact.
Street and parking striping will follow as soon as the asphalt has cured, normally a week, but any blocking of the streets will only be at night or on Sunday and just short sections at a time.
