PRESS RELEASE - Cold Case Indictment
December 18, 2014
Under the direction of Marshall Police Chief Jesus Eddie Campa, the Departments unsolved homicide cases were recently reviewed in conjunction with the Harrison County District Attorney’s Office. At the conclusion of the review, the murder investigation of Anthony Thomas was determined to be one that was solvable to the point that District Attorney Coke Solomon wished to move forward in presenting the case to a Grand Jury. On Thursday December 18, 2014 this case was presented to the Harrison County Grand Jury by Marshall Police Department Detective Sergeant Darryl Griffin. The Grand Jury felt there was sufficient evidence to indict Jerold Lynn Gaut (DOB 07/30/1975) for the June 4, 2004 murder of Anthony David Thomas (DOB 10/30/1979), known to his family and friends as “Boogie”. Jerold Lynn Gaut is currently serving a 25 year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) on a charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault from a December 13, 2004 incident. Chief Campa states, “The Marshall Police Department is committed to continuously reviewing each cold case and working towards locating the actor or actors involved. The Marshall Police Department would like to ask anyone with information concerning any cold case to please call the Marshall Police or Crime Stoppers with your information in order to provide justice for the families and loved ones affected by these heinous crimes.” Chief Campa would like to thank the men and women of the Criminal Investigation Bureau for their countless hours spent investigating, reviewing, and preparing this case for the grand jury.
