Press Release—ASPHALT OVERLAY PROJECT ON TWO DOWNTOWN STREETS
NEWS RELEASE – CITY OF MARSHALL, TEXAS
MARSHALL PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT - STREET DIVISION
OCTOBER 23, 2014
Re: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE CITY OF MARSHALL ANNOUNCES AN ASPHALT OVERLAY PROJECT ON TWO DOWNTOWN STREETS ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2014 – STREETS WILL BE BLOCKED OFF PART OF THE DAY
Of extreme importance is a planned asphalt overlay on North Washington and North Wellington Streets, from the Square, northward four blocks to Highway 80 (Grand Ave.) which is scheduled for Monday, October 27th (weather permitting). The process involves adding a new asphalt surface over the entire street and parking surface and will require blocking off both streets during the asphalting process.
This coming Monday the 27th, all access to the noted segments of North Washington and North Wellington will be blocked due to the asphalt overlay process – all vehicles MUST be removed before Monday morning or they will be towed at the owner’s expense. We apologize for this inconvenience and we hereby alert anyone normally parking on those sections of North Washington and North Wellington, that there will be no access this coming Monday, and they will need to make other parking arrangements. Businesses need to be aware of this interruption and make the appropriate arrangements for access or operation.
The contractor will try to accommodate everyone as much as possible, but the main issue is that no vehicles can be parked on the street and these two streets will not be open to traffic until the process is complete. Unlike the preparation edge milling which was done on a Sunday, the asphalt overlay must be accomplished on a week day, due to the operating hours of the asphalt plant.
Once the planned asphalt overlay of North Washington and North Wellington is completed, the contractor plans to start their overlay of East Houston and North Bolivar, late Monday and early next week (weather permitting). Street and parking striping will follow as soon as the asphalt has cured, normally a week to ten days, but any blocking of the streets will only be at night.
