CITY COMMISSION APPROVES FUNDING OF $1,473,308.00 FOR STREET OVERLAYS AND RECONSTRUCTION AS PART OF THE 2014 ANNUAL STREET IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
At its regular scheduled meeting of May 8, 2014, the Marshall City Commission approved $1,473,308.00 for street improvements this summer, as part of the 2014 Street Improvement Program. City General Funds of $990,783.00 cover 67.2% of the estimated costs for improvements; Street Maintenance Sales Tax funds of $482,525.00 cover 32.8% of the estimated improvement costs. 2014 is the second year of funding from the Street Maintenance Sales Tax, which was previously approved by voters, and supports nearly one-third of the street improvements this year.
The street improvement program this summer will concentrate heavily on street overlays with twenty (20) streets scheduled for an asphalt overlay; balance of scheduled improvements include removal of one (1) old railroad crossing and resurfacing overlay, a portion of one (1) street scheduled for reconstruction and asphalt overlay, two (2) streets set to receive a micro-seal treatment to seal the cracked surface and protect the roadway from further cracking and deterioration until they can receive an asphalt overlay in the near future, and four (4) streets scheduled for an oil re-mix and rolling of a new surface.
Funding of nearly $1.5 million dollars in 2014 represents the City Commission’s dedication and support to actively address street improvements that have been greatly needed in Marshall.
A spreadsheet is attached detailing the streets covered in the 2014 Street Improvement Program and showing the type improvement scheduled for each.
