NEWS RELEASE: New School Zone Ordinance In Effect
The Marshall Police Department, along with the Marshall ISD Police Department, would like to remind drivers of the new ordinance in effect for the school zone at the Marshall Junior High School (MJHS). In October of 2018, the Marshall City Commission designated the 2700 block of East Travis Street, FM-31 in front of the MJHS campus, a “No Parking and No Standing” zone. The changes came after numerous traffic violations and unsafe practices occurred in the area. This zone change is designed to keep students from having to walk across a 4-lane roadway to get to school. The signs exhibiting the new ordinance will be erected on Wednesday, February 6. Officers with the Marshall Police Department and the Marshall ISD Police Department will remain present in the school zone during drop off/pick up hours to help ensure the safety of all students.
At the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year, Marshall Police also issued a public warning regarding drivers making illegal U-Turns within the Marshall City limits, specifically on FM-31 in front of MJHS. Signs stating “No U-Turn” have since been placed along the roadway in the school zone on FM-31.
