NEWS RELEASE: MPD Conducts Active Shooter Exercise
The Marshall Police Department partnered with the Marshall Independent School District (MISD) and other local agencies to conduct an active shooter incident drill. The exercise was held on Wednesday, July 11 at approximately 9 a.m. at the Marshall Junior High School. The scenario for the exercise simulated an active shooter on the junior high campus. The drill included personnel from the Marshall Police Department, Marshall Fire Department, City of Marshall Administration, MISD Police Department, MISD Administration, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Medical Center, and help from local students from the City of Marshall.
The half-day exercise simulated a multi-jurisdictional and multi-agency response to an active shooter situation. While law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency health care providers are constantly training for these types of events, today’s exercise was designed to serve as an opportunity to implement multi-agency coordination. The drill also enabled participants to establish a learning environment to carry out plans, policies and procedures.
