MAYOR CALLS FOR COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF EBOLA PREPAREDNESS
Marshall, TX – October 15, 2014
Marshall Mayor, Ed Smith, has called for a comprehensive review of the city’s local preparedness to recognize and meet an Ebola confrontation stating: “The recent Ebola cases that are developing in Dallas should have our concern with regard to our preparedness here in Marshall. In light of the fact that Ebola has now entered into the U.S., and that cases are developing in Dallas, an overall and comprehensive review of our local preparedness to meet an Ebola challenge should be conducted. We want to be completely prepared, to the extent as can be reasonably be expected, to recognize and meet an Ebola challenge.”
Mayor Smith has called for a review of the city’s EMS (ambulance) service preparedness, and a comprehensive review with local health care providers, health care services, Good Shepherd Medical Center, county, and state officials to assess overall local preparedness, including protocols, health care provider preparedness and resources available to address an Ebola challenge in Marshall. Mayor Smith has indicated that this review should be an ongoing and continuing process to ascertain that Marshall is prepared, as can reasonably be expected, to address the uncertainties associated with an Ebola outbreak.
