Marshall Main Street invites stakeholders to participate in strategic planning….

The City of Marshall Main Street Advisory Board is gearing up for an exciting day of learning, planning and strategy at an upcoming Main Street Program Retreat. Debra Drescher, the State Coordinator for the Texas Main Street Program and Emily Koller, the Planner for the Texas Historical Commission will be in Marshall on Thursday, June 18th to facilitate the day. Advisory Board Members will have the opportunity to participate in an Introduction to Main Street 101 to get the basics of the National Main Street Center’s Main Street 4-point approach. The 4-point approach is a preservation based downtown revitalization program that utilizes Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Restructuring to enhance downtown districts across the country. Marshall Main Street is one of 80+ programs in the State of Texas. Marshall celebrated 10 years as a recertified Main Street city in 2012.

“Main Street at its core is a community wide effort, and because of that we wanted to invite stakeholders to participate alongside the Main Street Advisory Board during this retreat,” said City of Marshall Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien. “Downtown revitalization doesn’t happen because of a single group, entity, or individual. It is the sum of many parts that enables Main Street programs to make a difference in their downtowns. “

Main Street 101 Board training will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Main Street Program has extended invitations to a variety of stakeholders in Marshall to join for the Stakeholders meeting scheduled to take place from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. During the stakeholder’s session the group will discuss successes, needs, challenges and generate ideas and consider opportunities for the future. The retreat will take place at the Starr Family Historic Site’s Blake House, located at 407 W. Travis Street. After lunch the Marshall Main Street Advisory Board will spend the afternoon developing a work plan and mission and vision for the program.

“Downtown Marshall is already a treasure. I am looking forward to everyone coming together to generate new ideas to help grow on Marshall Main Street’s past successes and to develop a plan for the future,” said O’Brien.
