The City Secretary is appointed by the City Commission and also serves as the Finance Director for the City.
The City Secretary attends and prepares official minutes of the City Commission meetings and serves as the custodian of city records including Commission minutes, resolutions, ordinances, contracts, and other documents vital to the operation of the city.
The City Secretary is the Public Information Coordinator for the City of Marshall. This office is responsible for coordinating with the city departments and ensuring that all Open Records Requests are processed in a timely fashion in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act and city procedures.
City elections are ordered by the City Commission and managed by the City Secretary. City elections will be conducted in accordance with the Texas Election Code. The City of Marshall contracts with Harrison County to administer elections and tabulate ballots. The General Election for City Commissioner Districts 5, 6 and 7 will be Saturday, May 2, 2020. Candidates may submit an application for Place on General Election Ballot between January 15, 2020 and February 14, 2020 at the City Secretary’s Office.
The Special Election to Fill a Vacancy for City Commissioner District 2 will be Saturday, May 2, 2020. Candidates may submit an application for Place on General Election Ballot between January 15, 2020 and March 3, 2020 at the City Secretary’s Office.
