The City Of Marshall was formed in 1847 after Panola county divided into two
parts. The northern half of Panola County became Harrison County and the Southern half remained
Panola County.
The Stage Coach and the Railroad played a major role for transportation in Harrison
County. Stage Coach transportation would be similar to Greyhound Bus travel today.
However, because of rural conditions Stage Coach travel would be interrupted when creeks,
rivers, bridges and ferries were impossible to cross.
Railroad transportation made life more economical by providing means
to transport goods and merchandise across the U.S. The T & P Railroad Museum has a great
display for visitors to view and help realize the role the Railroad played in establishing
Harrison County.
The Stage Coach and Railroad are honored at our annual Stage Coach
Days. Stage Coach Days is the place you can be as hip as you like or as down home as you
wanna be. Stage Coach Days welcome Cowboys and Cowgirls and promote western dressing.
