John Wilborn - District 5

Commissioner John Wilborn was first elected to the Marshall City Commission in May of 1986, and is presently serving his 9th two-year term as a Commissioner of District 5.  Mr. Wilborn also served this community as Chairman of the City Commission during his 1992-1994 term.  He is married to Kathryn Thompson Wilborn.  They have three children, John Jr., Jeffery, and Stephanie, and are grandparents to seven grandchildren.

John is a graduate of Wiley College, and received his Master's form Texas Southern University.  He was an educator in public schools for 36 years, and retired as Deputy Principal at Sam Houston Middle School.

Mr. Wilborn is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, chairman of the Deacon Board, member of the Men's Chorus and a Sunday School Superintendent.  He is a veteran of the Korean War, and received an Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant.  John served on the Bio Racial Committee, received the Citizen of the Year award, Cub Scout and Boy Scout Master, and is a life member of the NAACP and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
