About the Historic Landmark Preservation Board
The Historic Preservation Ordinance of the City of Marshall created the Historic
Landmark Preservation Board (HLPB). The HLPB consists of seven members appointed by the
Marshall City Commission. Members are appointed for terms of two years ending on September
1. Members appointed to fill unexpired terms complete the term of the position being filled
and then are eligible appointment to new terms. The members serve without
compensation.
The Board meets monthly. The current meeting date and time is the second
Monday of each month at 3:30.
The Board’s function as stated in the Historic Preservation Ordinance is to:
-
Familiarize itself with the buildings, land, areas and districts within the city that may be
eligible for designation as historic landmarks. An historic resources survey was completed in 2000.
This needs review and updating on a periodic basis.
-
Implement the Historic Preservation Plan adopted by the Marshall City Commission and recommend
updates of the Plan when needed
-
Make recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission on applications for historic landmark
designations
-
Issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for landmarked properties when any change proposed to the
exterior of the building that triggers a building permit.
