    New Town Neighborhood Association

New Town Neighborhood is located on the west side of Marshall. The boundaries are generally West Houston on the north, South Grove on the east, Emory/Meredith/Sylvester/Southwest Road on the south,
and M.L. King Jr. Blvd. on the west.  New Town was home to many prominent individuals in Texas and U.S. history.  Within the neighborhood is Wiley College, the oldest accredited black college west of the Mississippi River.

The City of Marshall nominated New Town for the "Visionaries in Preservation" planning program of the Texas Historical Commission (THC).  In 2001 New Town was selected for the planning program.  The THC staff guided neighborhood residents through a planning process that resulted in an action plan for the neighborhood.  The plan is available below in PDF format.
