  • Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and Honors

    The titles chosen represent excellence in children's literature published in the United States in the categories of Picture Book, Fiction and Poetry, and Non-Fiction and is awarded annually in the fall by The Boston Globe and The Horn Book Magazine .

     

     

      Caldecott Medal and Honors

    The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of the 19th century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott.  It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC ), a division of the American Library Association (ALA) , to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

     

     

    Coretta Scott King Award and Honors

    This award commemorates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and honors his widow, Coretta Scott King, for her courage and determination in continuing the work for peace and world of brotherhood.  The award is presented annually by the Ethnic Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table (EMIERT) , a division of the American Library Association , to authors and illustrators of African descent whose distinguished books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream".

     

     

    Ezra Jack Keats New Writer & New Illustrator Award

    The Ezra Jack Keats New Writer and New Illustrator Awards are given annually to an outstanding new writer and illustrator of picture books that portray the goals and values of Ezra Jack Keats, as expressed in his multicultural books including:  the universal qualities of childhood, a strong belief in family and community, and creativity and love of learning.  A committee selected by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation and the New York Public Library administers the award every April.

     

     

     

    Newbery Medal and Honors

    The Newbery Medal is administered by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) , a division of the American Library Association (ALA) , to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.  It is named for the 18th century British bookseller John Newbery and is awarded annually.
